52" x 57" This strippie quilt, composed of 35 pieced blocks that finish at 5 inches each, is named after Juliet Opie Hopkins (same last name, but we aren't related), a Civil War nurse. A wealthy woman, Juliet sold her estates in New York, Virginia, and Alabama and donated the money to establish hospitals for sick and wounded soldiers. There is no mention of her having been a quilter, although she did have the carpets in her home cut up to make blankets for the soldiers.
